Overview

Chloramphenicol + tetracycline + zinc oxide, commonly referred to as CTZ paste, is a multi-component antibiotic formulation used in Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR) therapy for the management of primary teeth with pulp necrosis. The paste is composed of chloramphenicol, tetracycline, and zinc oxide, which are typically mixed with eugenol to serve as a vehicle. This combination provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against the polymicrobial flora found in infected root canals, including both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. By placing the paste in the pulp chamber, the therapy aims to achieve sterilization of the root canal system and promote periradicular tissue healing without the need for conventional mechanical instrumentation or obturation of the canals. This approach is particularly utilized in pediatric dentistry as a simplified, minimally invasive alternative to conventional pulpectomy.
