Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Chlorhexidine + thymol** is a fixed-dose topical dental antimicrobial varnish, marketed as **Cervitec** and **Cervitec Plus**, containing chlorhexidine diacetate and thymol at 1% each. It is professionally applied to tooth surfaces to provide prolonged local antimicrobial activity, reduce bacterial activity and plaque-associated oral disease risk, and protect high-risk tooth and root surfaces. Chlorhexidine disrupts microbial cell membranes and has broad activity against oral bacteria, while thymol is a membrane-active phenolic antiseptic that adds antimicrobial activity. The varnish has been used for caries-risk management, gingival and periodontal care, exposed root-surface protection, and dentinal hypersensitivity; clinical studies have evaluated it as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in chronic periodontitis.
