Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Otoid is a combination ear drop formulation developed by Med Manor Organics, primarily used to soften, loosen, and facilitate the removal of impacted earwax (cerumen) while relieving associated ear pain and discomfort. It contains four active ingredients: paradichlorobenzene, chlorobutanol, turpentine oil, and lidocaine. Paradichlorobenzene acts as a cerumenolytic agent to dissolve and soften hardened earwax. Chlorobutanol serves as a preservative with mild antiseptic and local anesthetic properties. Turpentine oil acts as a lubricating agent to help dislodge the softened wax and produces a warming sensation that helps relieve pain. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels to prevent the transmission of pain signals from the ear canal to the brain, providing rapid relief from localized pain and irritation.
