Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chloroquine + methotrexate is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Methotrexate is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, while chloroquine is an antimalarial agent that also has immunomodulatory properties. The combination has been shown to be slightly more efficacious than methotrexate alone or with placebo in reducing joint counts, improving grip strength, and enhancing functional ability in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. However, it may also be associated with increased toxicity compared to monotherapy[1][6].
