Overview

ESCOLD is a multi-ingredient pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Eskay Therapeutics, a generic pharmaceutical company based in Ghana. It is formulated for the symptomatic relief of the common cold, influenza, and allergic conditions such as hay fever and allergic rhinitis. The medication typically combines three active ingredients: chlorphenamine (an antihistamine), paracetamol (an analgesic and antipyretic), and phenylephrine (a nasal decongestant). Chlorphenamine acts as a competitive antagonist at H1 histamine receptors, thereby reducing symptoms like sneezing, rhinorrhea, and itchy eyes. Paracetamol provides relief from associated aches, pains, and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, primarily within the central nervous system. Phenylephrine serves as a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist, inducing vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa to alleviate congestion. ESCOLD is available in various oral dosage forms, including tablets and syrups, for both adult and pediatric use.
