Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Exocuf-DC is a combination pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Ambiens Pharmaceuticals, primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of dry cough. It is formulated as a sugar-free, raspberry-flavored syrup containing two active ingredients: chlorpheniramine maleate and dextromethorphan hydrobromide. Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation antihistamine that acts as a competitive antagonist at the histamine H1 receptor, reducing allergic symptoms such as sneezing and rhinorrhea. Dextromethorphan is a non-opioid antitussive that acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla oblongata, primarily through sigma-1 receptor agonism and NMDA receptor antagonism, to elevate the cough threshold. The product is typically used for coughs associated with the common cold, flu, or other respiratory tract infections.
