Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kofarest LD is an oral fixed-dose combination syrup developed by Centaur Pharmaceuticals for the symptomatic treatment of dry, non-productive cough and associated upper respiratory allergic symptoms. It contains two active pharmaceutical ingredients: levodropropizine, a peripherally acting non-opioid antitussive, and chlorpheniramine maleate, a first-generation antihistamine. Levodropropizine suppresses the cough reflex by inhibiting the activation of sensory C-fibers in the respiratory tract and reducing the release of sensory neuropeptides like substance P, without causing central nervous system depression. Chlorpheniramine maleate acts as a competitive antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor, alleviating allergy-induced airway irritation, sneezing, and secretions. Together, these components provide synergistic relief from dry cough and upper respiratory allergy symptoms.
