Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cholera vaccine, live, oral is a biologic vaccine containing a live attenuated strain of *Vibrio cholerae* (CVD 103-HgR) designed for active immunization against disease caused by *V. cholerae* serogroup O1. It is administered as a single oral dose and induces immunity by stimulating the body to produce antibodies against the bacteria. The primary indication is prevention of cholera in individuals traveling to areas where the disease is endemic or epidemic. The mechanism of action involves exposure to weakened bacteria that trigger an immune response without causing illness[1][3][8]. Developed originally at academic institutions and further developed for commercial use, it is currently marketed under the brand name Vaxchora.
