Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chondroitin sulfate + glucosamine sulfate is a combination therapy used for the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly of the knee. Glucosamine sulfate is an amino sugar that serves as a building block for glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans in articular cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate is a complex polysaccharide that provides resistance to compression and inhibits enzymes that degrade cartilage, such as matrix metalloproteinases. Together, they aim to reduce joint pain, improve mobility, and potentially slow the progression of joint space narrowing. This specific formulation, manufactured by Geolab and sponsored by Azidus Brasil, was evaluated in a Phase 3 trial to demonstrate non-inferiority to the reference product Condroflex.
