Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chromium Cr-51 EDTA is a small-molecule radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used primarily for the estimation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). It consists of the radioactive isotope chromium-51 complexed with the chelating agent ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA). Following intravenous administration, the complex is almost exclusively cleared from the plasma by glomerular filtration, with negligible tubular secretion or reabsorption and minimal binding to plasma proteins. These pharmacokinetic properties make it an ideal marker for the precise assessment of renal function. It is also utilized in research settings for intestinal permeability studies and plasma clearance investigations.
