Ciclesonide + beclomethasone dipropionate is a combination of two inhaled corticosteroids used primarily in the management of asthma and other chronic inflammatory airway diseases. Both drugs act as prodrugs, becoming activated in the lung to exert their anti-inflammatory effects. Ciclesonide is metabolized to its active form (des-ciclesonide) after inhalation, exhibiting high affinity for the glucocorticoid receptor, and is associated with reduced local and systemic side effects due to its rapid metabolism and high serum protein binding[2][3][5][7]. Beclomethasone dipropionate is a synthetic corticosteroid prodrug that is converted to beclomethasone 17-monopropionate, which acts on the glucocorticoid receptor to reduce airway inflammation and immune responses[4][2][5][7]. Both components work by inhibiting multiple cell types and mediators involved in inflammation, such as mast cells, eosinophils, and cytokines, resulting in decreased airway hyperresponsiveness, reduced symptoms, and improved lung function in asthma patients[1][2][5][6][7].
