Overview
Ciclesonide + formoterol is a fixed-dose combination of two inhaled drugs used for the treatment of asthma. Ciclesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation and by promoting lipocortin synthesis, which suppresses arachidonic acid pathways. Formoterol is a long-acting beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist (LABA) that acts as a bronchodilator by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle to improve airflow. The combination was developed to provide both anti-inflammatory and bronchodilatory effects for improved asthma control[8][1][5]. The primary indication was asthma.
