Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of ciclosporin (also known as cyclosporine), a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant, and a corticosteroid (such as prednisolone or prednisone). Ciclosporin acts primarily by inhibiting calcineurin, thereby suppressing T-cell activation and reducing immune-mediated inflammation. Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory agents that modulate gene expression to broadly suppress immune responses. The combination is used in clinical practice for conditions requiring potent immunosuppression, such as organ transplantation (to prevent rejection) and certain autoimmune or inflammatory diseases like idiopathic membranous nephropathy with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. This regimen leverages the synergistic effects of both drugs to achieve better disease control than either agent alone[1][2][3].
