Overview
Cilnidipine + valsartan is an oral fixed-dose combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of hypertension. Cilnidipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that acts on both L-type and N-type calcium channels, leading to vasodilation by blocking calcium influx in vascular smooth muscle and inhibiting norepinephrine release from sympathetic nerve endings. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively antagonizes the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, thereby preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated sodium retention. The combination provides additive antihypertensive effects, greater blood pressure reduction than either agent alone, and may offer additional vascular protective benefits through mechanisms such as improved endothelial function and reduced oxidative stress[1][3][5][8].
