Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CimetrA (MGC-006) is an investigational, nano-micellar pharmaceutical formulation developed by Argent BioPharma (formerly MGC Pharmaceuticals) for the treatment of severe inflammatory conditions, particularly COVID-19. It is a multi-component synergetic composition containing curcumin, Boswellia serrata, and vitamin C (with earlier formulations also containing artemisinin), delivered via Graft Polymer's GraftBio self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) to enhance bioavailability. CimetrA acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent by suppressing IL-32 expression, increasing intracellular heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels, and inhibiting the overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, thereby preventing the onset of a cytokine storm. The drug is administered as an oral spray and has been evaluated in Phase II and Phase III clinical trials for hospitalized patients with moderate COVID-19.
