Overview

This combination immunotherapy consists of autologous cytokine-induced memory-like (CIML) natural killer (NK) cells and low-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2). The CIML NK cells are generated by ex vivo activation of a patient's own NK cells with a cocktail of cytokines (typically IL-12, IL-15, and IL-18), which induces a stable memory-like phenotype characterized by enhanced effector function and longevity. Following lymphodepleting chemotherapy, these cells are re-infused into the patient. Low-dose IL-2 (aldesleukin) is subsequently administered to promote the expansion, survival, and anti-tumor activity of the infused NK cells. This approach is being investigated by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for the treatment of advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma.
