Overview

CA + BAM8-22 is an experimental research combination consisting of cinnamaldehyde (CA) and the peptide Bovine Adrenal Medulla 8-22 (BAM8-22). This combination is utilized as a surrogate model to study non-histaminergic itch pathways, specifically investigating the interaction between the Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X1 (MrgprX1) and the Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) ion channel. BAM8-22 acts as a potent agonist of MrgprX1, which induces itch through the Gαq/11 pathway and downstream TRPA1 activation. Cinnamaldehyde is a known exogenous agonist of TRPA1. The combination is primarily used in clinical research settings, such as those conducted by Aalborg University, to characterize the mechanisms of chronic itch in healthy human volunteers.
