Overview

**ciprofloxacin + anthrax vaccine adsorbed** is a combination therapy used as post-exposure prophylaxis against inhalational anthrax. Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that targets bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, inhibiting bacterial DNA replication and cell division. Anthrax vaccine adsorbed (AVA, marketed as BioThrax) is an inactivated bacterial vaccine inducing active immunity against *Bacillus anthracis* by stimulating production of neutralizing antibodies to protective antigen. This dual regimen provides immediate antimicrobial action via ciprofloxacin to control the vegetative form of anthrax, while AVA induces active, long-lasting immune protection against spores that may germinate after antibiotic therapy ends. The combination has demonstrated no significant pharmacokinetic interactions or negative effects on vaccine immunogenicity, and is used especially in situations of known or suspected exposure to anthrax, including bioterrorism emergencies[1][3][4].
