**Ciprofloxacin + hydrocortisone** is a fixed-dose otic suspension combining ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibacterial, with hydrocortisone, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid. Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication, while hydrocortisone activates glucocorticoid receptors to suppress local inflammatory signaling, reducing ear-canal inflammation, erythema, pruritus, and swelling. The prescription product Cipro HC Otic contains ciprofloxacin hydrochloride equivalent to 2 mg/mL ciprofloxacin and hydrocortisone 10 mg/mL, and is approved for acute otitis externa in adults and children aged one year and older caused by susceptible Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Proteus mirabilis.
