Ciprofloxacin + ibuprofen gel is an investigational combination drug product developed by Ain Shams University for use as an intracanal medicament in endodontic retreatment. The formulation consists of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin and the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ibuprofen, typically at doses of 500 mg and 400 mg respectively, delivered in a gel base. It is designed for topical application within the root canal system to promote the healing of periapical lesions in patients who have experienced failed root canal treatments. The combination aims to provide synergistic effects by utilizing ciprofloxacin's broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against persistent endodontic pathogens and ibuprofen's anti-inflammatory properties to reduce periapical tissue inflammation. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials as an alternative to traditional medicaments like calcium hydroxide.
