ciprofloxacin + pegfilgrastim

Ciprofloxacin + pegfilgrastim is a combination therapy consisting of ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and pegfilgrastim, a long-acting recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) conjugated with polyethylene glycol. This combination is primarily used for the prevention of febrile neutropenia (FN) and related complications in patients undergoing myelosuppressive chemotherapy, such as TAC (docetaxel/doxorubicin/cyclophosphamide) regimens for breast cancer. Pegfilgrastim stimulates the production of neutrophils to reduce infection risk during periods of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia, while ciprofloxacin provides antibacterial prophylaxis against infections during these vulnerable periods. Clinical studies have shown that this combination is more effective than either agent alone or daily G-CSF in preventing FN and fatal neutropenic events[1][2][3]. The regimen has also been investigated for mitigating radiation-induced hematopoietic and gastrointestinal damage[2][4].
