Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes required for DNA replication and transcription. Ciprofloxacin is available in multiple formulations (oral tablets and liquid, intravenous injection, eye drops, ear drops) and is indicated for skin and soft tissue infections; bone and joint infections; complicated intra-abdominal infections (with metronidazole); respiratory tract infections including pneumonia; urinary tract infections; chronic bacterial prostatitis; anthrax exposure; plague; typhoid fever; infectious diarrhea; acute sinusitis among others[1][3][4][5][8]. Valortim is a monoclonal antibody developed as an immunotherapeutic agent targeting *Bacillus anthracis* protective antigen (PA), intended primarily for the prevention or treatment of inhalational anthrax. It works by binding to the PA component of anthrax toxin to neutralize its effects.
