Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BENOCIP-Z is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic and otic solution developed by Bennet Pharmaceuticals. It contains ciprofloxacin, a second-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and zinc sulfate, a topical astringent. Ciprofloxacin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, which are essential enzymes for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Zinc sulfate acts as a mild astringent and antiseptic, helping to reduce ocular or aural discharge and inflammation by precipitating surface proteins. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of superficial bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers, as well as inflammatory conditions of the external ear canal associated with bacterial pathogens.
