Overview

This is a heteronuclear dinuclear metal complex containing both platinum(II) and zinc(II) centers bridged by a pyrazine ligand. The complex features a cis-platinum configuration with two ammonia ligands and one chloride, connected via pyrazine to a zinc center coordinated with a tert-butyl-substituted terpyridine (terpytBu) ligand and chloride. This compound is part of research into novel metal-based anticancer drugs that combine the cytotoxic properties of platinum complexes (similar to cisplatin) with zinc coordination chemistry. The design aims to enhance DNA and protein binding properties compared to traditional platinum-based chemotherapeutics. The zinc center adopts a square-pyramidal structure. Studies have investigated its interactions with DNA and human serum albumin (HSA) biomolecules to understand its potential therapeutic mechanisms[1][4].
