Cisplatin + carboplatin is a combination of two platinum-based chemotherapeutic agents, both classified as alkylating agents. These drugs are commonly used in the treatment of various solid tumors, including ovarian cancer and lung cancer. Cisplatin and carboplatin share similar mechanisms of action but have different toxicity profiles; combining them can potentially increase the dose intensity of active platinum species while leveraging their non-overlapping toxicities. Both drugs form DNA crosslinks that inhibit DNA replication and transcription, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells such as cancer cells. This combination is sometimes explored in clinical trials for patients with advanced malignancies who may benefit from intensified platinum exposure[1][7]. The use of both together is less common than pairing either with other agents due to overlapping hematologic toxicity.
