Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four cytotoxic agents: cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, docetaxel, and epirubicin. Each drug has a distinct mechanism of action: - Cisplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis. - Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and transcription. - Docetaxel is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules and inhibits cell division. - Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II. The combination has been studied as a neoadjuvant regimen in early triple-negative breast cancer (notably as the "ddDCEP" protocol), showing high pathological complete response rates and favorable survival outcomes. It may also be considered for other solid tumors where these agents are individually active[1].
