Overview

The combination of cisplatin, doxorubicin, and vindesine is a chemotherapy regimen that has been studied for various types of cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer and thyroid carcinoma. This combination represents a multi-agent approach to cancer treatment. From the search results, this regimen showed moderate effectiveness against non-small cell lung cancer with a 27% response rate and median survival of 11.4 months in one study[1]. However, in advanced medullary and differentiated thyroid carcinoma, the combination showed limited efficacy with only one partial remission and three minor responses among 18 evaluable patients[2]. The main toxicities associated with this combination include myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression), peripheral neuropathy, and nephrotoxicity (kidney damage)[1][3]. In thyroid cancer patients, toxicity was considered considerable, including one severe case of cardiomyopathy[2]. The dosing regimen typically included cisplatin (80 mg/m²), doxorubicin (30 mg/m² or 50 mg/m²), and vindesine (2-3 mg/m²)[1][2]. For non-small cell lung cancer, patients with partial remission showed significantly better survival compared to those with no change or progressive disease[1]. In the context of thyroid carcinoma, this combination chemotherapy failed to prove superior to doxorubicin monotherapy, which was the commonly applied treatment at the time[2].
