This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of cisplatin, epirubicin, fluorouracil, and mitomycin c. These agents work through different mechanisms to target cancer cells. Cisplatin is a platinum-based compound that crosslinks DNA, interfering with cell division. Epirubicin is an anthracycline that intercalates with DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II. Fluorouracil is an antimetabolite that inhibits thymidylate synthase and disrupts DNA synthesis. Mitomycin c is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA. This combination has been studied in various configurations for treating advanced gastrointestinal cancers, particularly gastric and esophageal cancers.
