Overview

This combination regimen, investigated by the Washington University School of Medicine, is an adjuvant therapy for resected pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The protocol involves a chemoradiation phase using 3-D conformal radiation therapy combined with cisplatin, continuous infusion fluorouracil (5-FU), and interferon alfa as radiosensitizing agents. This intensive phase is followed by maintenance chemotherapy with gemcitabine. The regimen is designed to improve survival outcomes by combining the cytotoxic effects of multiple chemotherapy agents with the immunomodulatory and radiosensitizing properties of interferon alfa, specifically targeting residual microscopic disease after surgical resection.
