Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination therapy consists of two cytotoxic chemotherapy agents, cisplatin and gemcitabine, and a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation, Yangzheng Xiaoji (YZXJ). Cisplatin is a platinum-based alkylating-like agent that causes DNA cross-linking, while gemcitabine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis. Yangzheng Xiaoji is a capsule containing 16 herbs designed to improve quality of life (QoL) and mitigate chemotherapy-related side effects, such as fatigue and gastrointestinal toxicity, in patients with advanced solid tumors. In the YANG-1 clinical trial (NCT02195453), the addition of Yangzheng Xiaoji to platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) significantly improved QoL and reduced symptoms of fatigue and gastrointestinal reactions without compromising the efficacy of the chemotherapy.
