Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination regimen consisting of three drugs: - **Cisplatin** is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. It is widely used for various cancers including sarcomas, carcinomas, lymphomas, and germ cell tumors[3][5]. - **Gemcitabine** is a nucleoside analog (antimetabolite) that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporation into DNA and inhibition of ribonucleotide reductase. It is commonly used in the treatment of several solid tumors such as pancreatic, lung, bladder, and ovarian cancers[1][5]. - **Zoledronic acid** is a third-generation nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption by interfering with the mevalonate pathway. It is primarily indicated for malignancy-associated hypercalcemia, multiple myeloma, and bone metastases from solid tumors[7]. The combination of these agents has been studied preclinically and clinically for synergistic antitumor effects—particularly in settings where both cytotoxic activity against tumor cells (cisplatin/gemcitabine) and inhibition of bone metastasis or skeletal-related events (zoledronic acid) are desired. Preclinical studies have shown enhanced cytotoxicity when zoledronic acid is combined with gemcitabine or cisplatin in various cancer cell lines[2][6]. This regimen may be considered investigational as there are no standard regimens or unique brand names established for this specific triple-drug combination.
