Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four cytotoxic agents: cisplatin, ifosfamide, mitomycin, and vinblastine. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Cisplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA synthesis and function. - Ifosfamide is an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication by forming covalent bonds with DNA. - Mitomycin acts as an alkylating agent after metabolic activation and induces cross-linking of DNA strands. - Vinblastine is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation in the mitotic spindle, arresting cell division at metaphase. This combination has been investigated primarily for the treatment of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and other solid tumors. The regimen aims to exploit synergistic effects between drugs with different mechanisms to maximize antitumor activity.
