cisplatin + magnesium

Cisplatin + magnesium is a combination therapy where magnesium is administered alongside the chemotherapy drug cisplatin. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent used to treat various cancers, but it commonly causes nephrotoxicity (kidney damage) and hypomagnesemia (low magnesium levels). Magnesium supplementation is used to protect against these side effects and may also enhance cisplatin's anticancer efficacy. The protective mechanism appears to involve regulation of renal transporters such as OCT2 (organic cation transporter 2), which controls cisplatin transport into kidney cells. Additionally, magnesium may enhance cisplatin's effectiveness by moderating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in cancer cells.
