Cisplatin + nab-paclitaxel is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of various cancers, including metastatic breast cancer and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Cisplatin is a platinum-containing compound that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing tumor cells. Nab-paclitaxel is an albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation of paclitaxel, which inhibits microtubule disassembly during cell division, thereby blocking mitosis and inducing cancer cell death. The albumin-bound formulation (nab) allows for improved delivery and reduced hypersensitivity reactions compared to conventional solvent-based paclitaxel[1][2][4]. This combination has demonstrated enhanced efficacy compared to single-agent therapy or other combinations in certain settings, with manageable toxicity profiles[2][5].
