This is a combination of two small molecule drugs, citalopram and mecamylamine hydrochloride. Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) primarily used to treat major depressive disorder by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the central nervous system, thereby increasing serotonergic activity[1][6][8]. Mecamylamine hydrochloride is a non-selective, non-competitive antagonist of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), originally developed as an antihypertensive agent but also investigated for its effects on neuropsychiatric conditions[4]. The combination has been studied as an adjunctive therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD), particularly in patients with inadequate response to SSRI monotherapy. The rationale is that blocking nicotinic acetylcholine receptors may enhance antidepressant efficacy when combined with SSRIs like citalopram[5][9].
