Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Citicoline + omega-3** is a combination product of citicoline (cytidine-5'-diphosphocholine), a cholinergic compound with neuroprotective and phospholipid-synthesizing properties, and omega-3 fatty acids, typically docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Mechanistically, citicoline serves as an intermediary in the synthesis of cell membrane phospholipids and has neuroprotectant and neuromodulator effects, often used in cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases. DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, is incorporated into neuronal membranes, supporting cellular function, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting neurogenesis. Combination therapy with citicoline and DHA demonstrates synergistic effects: improved learning, memory, and prevention of neuronal cell death in preclinical stroke models, as well as enhanced visual field indices in clinical studies of glaucoma. This combination is typically marketed and used as a nutraceutical or dietary supplement for cognitive health, memory, attention, and visual function, with investigational use in neurodegenerative and ophthalmic diseases[2][3][5].
