Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Citric acid + ascorbic acid is a combination dialysate solution used in hemodialysis. Citric acid acts as a local anticoagulant within the dialyzer by chelating calcium ions, which reduces the need for systemic heparin and minimizes the risk of clotting in the dialysis circuit. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) serves as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, helping to manage oxidative stress, improve anemia management, and reduce the requirements for erythropoietin and intravenous iron supplementation in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The combination is also formulated as oral effervescent tablets for vitamin C supplementation.
