Drug intelligence / Profile preview
citric acid + L-ascorbic acid (marketed under the brand name CitraVit by Verma Drugs) is a specialized acidic citrate dialysis solution enhanced with L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) used for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. Citric acid acts as a local anticoagulant by chelating calcium ions, which significantly reduces the requirement for heparin during dialysis sessions and minimizes the risk of thrombosis. L-ascorbic acid serves as a potent antioxidant that mitigates oxidative stress and inflammation associated with hemodialysis. Additionally, L-ascorbic acid improves the management of renal anemia by enhancing iron mobilization and absorption, thereby reducing the need for monthly iron administration and stabilizing hemoglobin levels.
