This is a combination therapy for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis, consisting of the human monoclonal antibody cocktail CL184 and purified verocell rabies vaccine (PVRV). CL184 is a 1:1 protein mixture of two human monoclonal antibodies, CR57 and CR4098, which broadly neutralize rabies virus by binding to different antigenic sites on the rabies glycoprotein. The purified verocell rabies vaccine (PVRV) is an inactivated rabies virus vaccine produced in vero cells and administered intramuscularly. This combination aims to provide both immediate passive immunity (via CL184) and active immunity (via PVRV), as a potential alternative to the use of human or equine rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG/ERIG) plus vaccine in post-exposure prophylaxis. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the combination can elicit protective levels of rabies virus-neutralizing antibodies and is generally well-tolerated[1][2][3][5][6]. CL184 was originally developed by Crucell (later acquired by Janssen, part of Johnson & Johnson)[1].
