Overview

CL316,243 is a potent and highly selective β3-adrenoceptor (beta 3 adrenergic receptor) agonist. It exhibits over 10,000-fold selectivity for the β3-adrenoceptor compared to β1 and β2 receptors. The compound increases brown adipose tissue thermogenesis and metabolic rate by stimulating lipolysis in adipocytes. These effects result in anti-obesity and anti-diabetic actions such as reduced white adipose tissue mass, decreased blood glucose and insulin levels, improved energy expenditure, and potential reduction of hypertriglyceridemia. In animal studies it has also been shown to induce muscle hypertrophy via mTOR signaling pathways. While primarily used as a research tool compound for studying metabolic diseases like obesity and diabetes mellitus type 2 (non-insulin-dependent), it is not approved for human therapeutic use[1][4][5][8].
