Overview

Clevudine + tenofovir is a combination of two antiviral agents used primarily in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Both drugs act as inhibitors of the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme but through distinct mechanisms. Tenofovir is a nucleotide analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nRTI) that works by being incorporated into viral DNA and causing chain termination during replication[3][5][8]. Clevudine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits HBV DNA polymerization at the priming stage and also inhibits DNA chain elongation in a noncompetitive manner without being incorporated into the viral genome[6]. This combination may offer synergistic effects against HBV by targeting different steps in the viral replication process. Tenofovir is also widely used for HIV-1 infection as part of antiretroviral therapy regimens[2][3][4].
