Overview

clindamycin + adapalene is a topical combination therapy developed by Biogracea Medicare for the treatment of acne vulgaris. This formulation combines clindamycin, a lincosamide antibiotic, with adapalene, a third-generation retinoid. Clindamycin works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, such as *Cutibacterium acnes*, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and reducing inflammation. Adapalene acts as a selective agonist for retinoic acid receptors (specifically RAR-beta and RAR-gamma), which modulates cellular differentiation and keratinization to normalize the follicular epithelium and prevent the formation of comedones. Together, these agents provide a synergistic effect by targeting both the bacterial and structural components of acne pathogenesis. The product is approved for marketing and is typically administered as a topical gel.
