Clindamycin phosphate + benzoyl peroxide is a fixed-dose topical combination medication used for the treatment of acne vulgaris in patients 12 years and older. It combines two active ingredients with complementary mechanisms of action. Clindamycin phosphate is a water-soluble ester prodrug of the lincosamide antibiotic clindamycin, which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit in *Cutibacterium acnes* (formerly *Propionibacterium acnes*), thereby reducing bacterial proliferation. Benzoyl peroxide acts as an oxidizing agent that releases free radical oxygen species to kill *C. acnes* through oxidation of bacterial proteins; it also has keratolytic properties that help prevent clogged pores and reduce sebum production. The combination targets both the microbial and inflammatory components of acne while minimizing resistance development due to their distinct actions[1][2][3][5][6][8].
