Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clinpro White Varnish is a topical dental treatment containing 5% sodium fluoride and functionalized tri-calcium phosphate (fTCP). Developed and manufactured by 3M ESPE, it is primarily indicated for the relief of dentin hypersensitivity and the prevention of dental caries. The mechanism of action involves the occlusion of dentinal tubules; when applied to the tooth surface, the varnish reacts with saliva to release fluoride, calcium, and phosphate ions, which precipitate to form a protective mineral barrier (fluorapatite/hydroxyapatite). This barrier prevents the movement of fluid within the tubules, thereby blocking the transmission of pain-inducing stimuli to the dental pulp. The University of São Paulo conducted a Phase 3 clinical trial comparing its efficacy against other materials like resin-modified glass ionomer sealants for treating cervical dentin hypersensitivity.
