Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vioform Hydrocortisone is a topical combination medication consisting of clioquinol, an antifungal and antibacterial agent, and hydrocortisone, a low-potency corticosteroid. Clioquinol (also known as iodochlorhydroxyquin) exerts its antimicrobial effects likely through the chelation of metal ions required for microbial enzyme function and potentially by interfering with DNA replication. Hydrocortisone acts as an agonist at the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines. This dual-action approach is indicated for the treatment of primary or secondary skin infections where an inflammatory component is present, such as infected eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, or contact dermatitis. The product is currently marketed by Knight Therapeutics in Canada.
