Clomiphene citrate + Gonal-F is a combination drug regimen used as a minimal ovarian stimulation (induction) protocol for women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The regimen combines **clomiphene citrate**, an oral selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), with **Gonal-F (follitropin alfa)**, a recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH) administered via subcutaneous injection. Clomiphene citrate acts by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which inhibits negative feedback and stimulates the endogenous release of gonadotropins (FSH and LH). Gonal-F directly stimulates FSH receptors on ovarian granulosa cells to promote the development of multiple follicles. This specific combination is often investigated for use in 'poor responders' (such as Poseidon Group IV patients) to optimize follicular response while minimizing the high doses of gonadotropins typically required in standard stimulation protocols.
