Clonazepam + levetiracetam is a combination of two antiepileptic drugs used together primarily for the treatment of various seizure types, especially when monotherapy is ineffective. Clonazepam is a long-acting benzodiazepine that enhances GABAergic neurotransmission by acting as a positive allosteric modulator at the GABA-A receptor, resulting in anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle relaxant effects[6]. Levetiracetam is an anticonvulsant that binds to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) in the brain, modulating neurotransmitter release and reducing neuronal hyperexcitability[5][10]. The combination has shown efficacy and good tolerability in treating myoclonic seizures associated with conditions such as myoclonic epilepsy with ragged-red fibers (MERRF), particularly when single-drug therapy fails[3][4]. Both agents are approved for use as adjunctive therapies in various forms of epilepsy.
