Overview

Clonidine + buprenorphine is a combination regimen used primarily for the management of opioid withdrawal and detoxification. Clonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that reduces sympathetic outflow, thereby alleviating physical symptoms of opioid withdrawal such as sweating, restlessness, and elevated heart rate. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor; it reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms by partially stimulating opioid receptors without producing full opioid effects. The combination targets both physical (clonidine) and psychological/craving-related (buprenorphine) aspects of withdrawal, making detoxification more tolerable for patients[1][3][4]. This regimen is not available as a fixed-dose pharmaceutical product but rather involves co-administration under medical supervision.
