Overview
Clopirin is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) of the antiplatelet agents clopidogrel and aspirin. Developed by Jeil Pharmaceutical, it is primarily used in South Korea for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with coronary artery disease, particularly those undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Clopidogrel acts as a prodrug that irreversibly inhibits the P2Y12 subtype of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptors on platelets, while aspirin irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), preventing the synthesis of thromboxane A2. Together, these components provide dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in a single tablet to improve patient compliance and reduce the risk of stent thrombosis and myocardial infarction.
