Overview

This drug is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) formulation developed by Laboratorios Andromaco S.A., consisting of the progestin clormadinone acetate (2 mg) and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol (0.02 mg). Ethinylestradiol acts as an agonist at estrogen receptors, while clormadinone acetate is a progestin with antiandrogenic properties that acts on progesterone receptors. Together, they exert antigonadotropic effects, primarily by suppressing the mid-cycle surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), thereby inhibiting ovulation. Additionally, the formulation alters cervical mucus and the endometrium to further prevent pregnancy. This specific 2 mg/0.02 mg formulation is being evaluated for bioequivalence against the reference product Evafem 20.
